Every year, the UK throws away some 2 million tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). The WEEE Directive was adopted by the EU to deal with this problem by allowing more waste to be collected for treatment and recycling with less going to landfill.
WEEE has been in force since January 2007.
